Greatest Houston Comets Players Of All-Time

Greatest Houston Comets Players

Who are the Greatest Houston Comets Players? The Houston Comets were a WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) franchise that was based in Houston, Texas. The squad was one of the original eight WNBA teams, formed in 1997, and won the league’s first four titles. They are one of just two WNBA teams to go unbeaten in the WNBA Finals; the other being the Seattle Storm (however, the Storm is still in operation). The Comets were the first dynasty in the WNBA, and they are tied for the most championships with the Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm. The league folded and disbanded the franchise in 2008, during the height of the Great Recession, due to a lack of new ownership.

The Comets had a reputation for wooing top female basketball players. Cynthia Cooper (the WNBA’s inaugural MVP); college and national team standout Sheryl Swoopes; Kim Perrot, who died of cancer in 1999; and college talents Michelle Snow and Tina Thompson were among the squad’s members.
